Teays Valley is considering pay-to-participate options for the 2004-05 school year.  As our participation numbers grow and sport offerings increase, it has become increasingly more difficult to fund our athletic programs.

Go to the Teays Valley "Pay to Participate" committee meeting minutes, including the proposal submitted to the Teays Valley Board of Education.

We currently have 137 students participating in our winter athletic programs. 98% of those students have maintained their athletic eligibility. The overall grade point average of the 137 students is 3.07. Nearly 90% of our athletes earned a GPA of 2.0 or greater. Grade point ranges were:

     4.0 or greater     10.2%

     3.0 to 3.99     47.4%

     2.0 to 2.99     32.2%

     1.42 to 1.99     10.2%

First Quarter Grade Report Summary for Fall Athletes

A review of Fall Athlete’s grades for the First Quarter has been completed. The overall GPA for our 237 athletes was 3.20. We had 26 student-athletes earn a 4.0 or better (11%) and 132 earned a GPA in the 3.0 to 3.99 range (57.4%). 98.5% of our fall athletes would have maintained eligibility status by both OHSAA and Teays Valley local eligibility standards.

<< Tom Heil receiving his plaque and pullover from Athletic Director Jim Hayes.  Tom Heil originated the boys and girls tennis programs at Teays Valley. He coached boys tennis for 26 years from 1977 to 2002 and girls tennis tennis for five years from 1997 - 2001. Tom is also the official scorekeeper for the boys basketball team, is "the voice" of the football vikings. Although no longer coaching an athletic team, he continues to coach and influence our student-athletes as a guidance counselor and advisor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The Teays Valley Athletic Department would like to thank these two men for their outstanding years of service to the youth of the Teays Valley.
<< Roger Campbell receiving his plaque and pullover.  Roger Campbell has served the Teays Valley School District as a basketball and baseball coach. He coached boys basketball at the 8th grade, Freshman, and Reserve levels for 13 years and was head coach for three years. He will be remembered most for his accomplishments as a baseball coach. He spent 30 years working in our baseball program, eight years as reserve and 22 years as head coach. His teams won seven Mid-State League Championships, 1 District title, and reached the district level eight times. In 1996 Roger was inducted into the Mid-State League Hall of Fame. He finished his career with 317 wins and 246 losses. He continues to remained involved with the athletic program by filming our varsity football games and serving as the official scorekeeper for home girls basketball games. He is currently teaching business education at the high school.

Interim grade checks have been completed for the 4th Quarter. 97% of our 132 spring athletes maintained their eligibility status. The following students had all A's for the interim:

Congratulations to Winter Sport Student Athletes for their Academic performance during the second nine weeks!  Out of our 213 students participating in Winter Sports, 59% of those participating had a 3.0 GPA or greater.  Overall 98.5% of the fall athletes met OHSAA and local eligibility guidelines and are eligible to continue participation during the second quarter.  "A" Team members for the second nine weeks with a GPA of 4.0 or greater are:
