2010-06-10     Schedule for June14-July 4

The Teays Valley Youth Camp is set for June 14-17.  Students entering grades 5-8 in the 2010-11 school year will have camp from 9:00-11:30.  Students entering grades 2-4 in the 2010-11 school year will have camp from 12:30-3:00.  You are welcome to sign up the day of camp.  Camp cost is $50 and the camp will be held at Teays Valley High School in the main gym.

High School Schedule:

 June 14-16 there will be practice to prepare for Team Camp at the University of Cincinnati.  If you are attending team camp please plan on attending.  There will be no open gyms planned for this week.

June 18-20 - Team Camp at the University of Cincinnati.  We will meet at 7:45 am on Friday, June 18th to leave for camp.

June 21-27 - Open gym will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd from 6-8.  June 25th - Varsity Shootout at Wright State.   June 26th and 27th - Varsity Shootout at the University of Toledo.

June 28- July 4 - The Gyms will be closed for cleaning.  We will lift from 9-10 Monday (28th), Wednesday (30th) and Friday (2nd)

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team earned their way to the Districts with a come from behind win over Independence by the final score of 46-40.  The Vikings struggled offensively in the first half and were only able to put 9 points on the scoreboard, but were able to keep the score within striking distance by playing good half court defense and holding Independence to 22 first half points.  The Vikings came out hot in the third quarter and outscored Independence 19-2 to take a 4 point lead heading into the final quarter.  The Vikings finished the fourth quarter by outscoring Independence 18-16 and hitting 10-12 free throws in the final stanza.  Scoring for the Vikings: Koah 12, Anderson 16, Bowling 12, Cowles 4, Priest 2.


2010-02-23Location: AwayTeays Valley: 37New Albany: 35

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team was able to come away with a hard fought two point win against New Albany in the first round of tournament play.  The game was close throughout as neither team was able to get on track offensively and both teams played extremely well defensively.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 3, Koah 6, Anderson 15, Bowling 7, Cowles 3, Priest 3.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team ran out of gas midway through the fourth quarter as they completed their 3rd game in 3 days.  The Indians began the fourth quarter with a one point lead, but were able to outscore the Vikings 22-12 in the final quarter to gain the win.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 11, Koah 11, Hite 3, Anderson 20, Bowling 4, Cowles 3, Priest 7, Tavenner 2.

Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team came up on the short end of a Mid State League contest against Canal Winchester by the final score of 56-50.  The Vikings played extremely well in the first half and took a 12 point lead into the locker room.  Teays Valley struggled to put the ball in the basket in the second half and the Indians took advantage.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 2, Koah 3, Anderson 16, Bowling 12, Cowles 11, Priest 6.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball team was defeated by Logan Elm at Ohio Christian University 53-48.  Logan Elm shot the ball very well in the second and third quarters to build a 15 point lead.  Teays Valley was able to put together a good fourth quarter to cut into the lead, but could never get any closer than the final margin.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 3, Koah 10, Anderson 14, Bowling 5, Hodge 2, Cowles 10, Priest 4.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team got off to a fast start and never looked back on their way to a 59-36 victory over the visiting Westfall Mustangs in a game played at Ohio Christian University.  Pressure defense and balanced scoring were the keys to the Viking victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 7, Koah 8, Anderson 19, Bowling 7, Hodge 5, Cowles 5, Betts 2, Poole 2, Tavenner 2, Graves 2.


2009-12-22Location: HomeTeays Valley: 61Hamilton Township: 52

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team put together a solid four quarter effort against the visiting Rangers of Hamilton Township to post a 61-52 victory in Mid State League action.   The Vikings moved the ball well on offense and hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the victiory and move to 2-1 in league play and 4-2 overall.  Scoring for the Vikings: Koah 5, Anderson 15, Bowling 17, Cowles 11, Poole 9, Tavenner 4.


2009-12-18Location: AwayTeays Valley: 63Circleville: 36

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team got off to a fast start and never looked back on their way to a 63-36 win over the Circleville Tigers Friday evening.  The Vikings did a very good job of applying pressure on the defensive end and took advantage of their size on the offensive end to get many close range baskets.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 8, Anderson 17, Bowling 9, Cowles 5, Betts 2, Priest 6, Poole 6, Tavenner 8, Graves 2.


2009-12-12Location: AwayTeays Valley: 42Bloom Carroll: 49

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team opened league play with a loss to Bloom Carroll 49-42.  The game was very close throughout the first three quarters as neither team was able to lead by more than 4 points.  The Bulldogs were able to pull away in the last 4 minutes of the game and hit free throws down the stretch to seal the win.  Scoring for the Vikings:  Dresbach 2, Koah 2, Anderson 20, Bowling 3, Cowles 7, Priest 5, Poole 1, Tavenner 2.


2009-12-11Location: AwayTeays Valley: 55Mifflin: 67

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team traveled to Mifflin and competed well for the first three quarters, but Mifflin was able to outscore the Vikings by 13 in the final quarter to hand Teays Valley their first loss of the season.  Scoring for the Vikings:  Dresbach 4, Koah 3, Anderson 13, Bowling 9, Hodge 10, Priest 4, Poole 4, Tavenner 8.


2009-12-05Location: AwayTeays Valley: 64Lancaster: 46

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team traveled to Lancaster for their first road game of the season Saturday night.  The Vikings got off to a good start and built a 14-11 first quarter.  The lead grew to double figures during the second quarter, but Lancaster was able to score at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 9 going into halftime.  The Vikings came out hot in the third quarter and scored 22 points in the quarter to push the lead to 50-29.  A solid 4th quarter allowed the Vikings to come away with the victory.  Teays Valley did a good job of finding the open man tonight and played extremely unselfish.  The Vikings are off until next Saturday when they travel to Bloom Carroll to open up league play.  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 5, Koah 16, Anderson 16, Bowling 2, Cowles 4, Priest 6, Poole 11, Tavenner 3, Graves 1.


2009-12-04Location: HomeTeays Valley: 44Dublin Jerome: 39

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys got off to a 1-0 start with a home win over Dublin Jerome Friday evening in front of an enthusiastic crowd.  Both teams played aggressive defense and scoring was hard to come by the entire night.  The Vikings were able to finish the evening off by hitting 6 of their last 8 free throws to seal the victory.  Great win to start the season!  Scoring for the Vikings: Dresbach 4, Koah 12, Anderson 12, Bowling 7, Cowles 2, Priest 3, Poole 2, Tavenner 2.


2009-02-27Location: AwayTeays Valley: 43Gahanna: 54

The Teays Valley Boys Basketball team came up on the short end of a hard fought sectional final battle against Gahanna Lincoln 54-43.  The Vikings fell behind by 10 points at halftime, but were able to regroup and battle back in the second half.  The Vikings were able to cut the lead to 2 points with under 3 minutes to play, but were never able to take the lead.  This ends a very good 15-7 season for the Vikings.  A special thanks for the leadership and effort displayed by our 7 seniors this year.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 5, Bowling 2, Race 7, Zwayer 2, Ell 11, Anderson 14, Freeman 2.

The Teays Valley Boys Basketball Team defeated Tri Valley 60-44 in the first round of tournament action.  The Vikings played a very good defensive game and had a balanced scoring attack to come away with a solid victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Bowling 12, Race 21, Ell 4, Anderson 11, Freeman 8, Trego 4.


2009-02-20Location: AwayTeays Valley: 72Fairfield Union: 47

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Team played their third game in four days and once again put forth a solid effort in defeating Fairfield Union 72-49.  The Vikings built a 9 point first quarter lead and extended the lead to 21 points at the half.  The Vikings never let the lead get below 16 in the second half.  This puts the Vikings at 9-5 overall in the Mid State League for a third place finish and 14-6 overall.  Scoring for the Vikings:  Brady 4, Coe 3, Race 29, Ell 10, Anderson 12, Freeman 6, Trego 4, Priest 2, Dresbach 2.

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team sent the Seniors out on a positive note with an 82-49 victory over Circleville on Senior night.  The Vikings got off to a fast start and built a 44-25 halftime lead and never looked back.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 2, Coe 14, Race 19, Ell 13, Anderson 8, Tavenner 4, Freeman 6, Trego 8, Koah 2, Priest 6.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball team won a league contest at Hamilton 64-55 Saturday afternoon.  The Vikings got off to a good start and built a 17-10 first quarter lead.  The Vikings were able to shoot well from the free throw line throughout the game to keep the lead and put the Rangers away.  Scoring for the Vikings:  Brady 5, Bowling 4, Race 14, Ell 8, Anderson 11, Freeman 8, Trego 14.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team posted a 70-60 win over Canal Winchester  Tuesday evening.  Canal came into the game a perfect 8-0 in league play.  The Vikings got off to a good start and lead by 6 after one quarter and 14 at the half.  The Vikings were able to extend the lead to 22 points in the third, but the Indians were able to fight back and cut the lead to as low as 8 points in the last quarter.  The Vikings stayed tough down the stretch and hit 11 of 14  free throws to seal the victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 2, Coe 4, Bowling 3, Race 23, Zwayer 4, Ell 17, Anderson 14, Freeman 3.

The Vikings rebounded from a tough league loss with a good performance against Briggs in a 74-50 victory.  The Vikings took control early outscoring Briggs by 13 in the first and 9 in the second to take a 47-25 halftime lead.  The Vikings remained solid in the second half playing good defense and limiting Briggs to 25 second half points.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 4, Coe 9, Race 26, Zwayer 8, Ell 2, Anderson 18, Freeman 2, Trego 2, Koah 3.

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team lost a physical league contest to Fairfield Union 63-56.  Teays Valley played a good first half and lead by three and halftime.  The third quarter was the difference in the game as the Falcons outscored the Vikings 20-9.  The Vikings were never able to put together a sustained run in the fourth quarter.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 2, Coe 16, Race 14, Ell 1, Anderson 17, Freeman 4, Trego 2.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball team ran into a hot shooting Circleville squad Saturday night, but were able to turn up the defensive pressure in the second half to come away with a 59-52 victory.  This puts the Vikings at 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 3, Coe 7, Bowling 5, Race 10, Zwayer 8, Ell 4, Anderson 15, Freeman 5, Trego 2.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team played one of their best games to date vs. Hamilton and came away with a 78-56 victory.  It was the first time this season that the Vikings won all four quarters of the game.  The Vikings did a very good job of passing the ball for good looks at the basket as 3 players recorded 5 or more assists on the evening.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 2, Coe 10, Bowling 9, Race 25, Zwayer 2, Ell 6, Anderson 16, Freeman 4, Trego 4.


2009-01-09Location: HomeTeays Valley: 65Amanda Clearcreek: 50

The Viking Boys Varsity Basketball team got off to a great start in the first quarter against Amanda Clearcreek and built a 24-11 lead.  The Vikings lost focus in the middle two quarters as Amanda closed the gap to 48-41 after three quarters of action.  The Vikings put forth their best defensive effort in the fourth quarter as they held Amanda to 9 points and finished with a 65-50 victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 3, Coe 5, Race 9, Zwayer 7, Ell 23, Anderson 14, Freeman 4.


2009-01-03Location: HomeTeays Valley: 50Lancaster: 44

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team battled Lancaster in overtime to a 50-44 victory.  This was the third consecutive overtime game played by the Vikings.  Teays Valley opened up a 6 point lead in the 4th quarter, but poor free throw shooting allowed Lancaster to hang around and put the game in overtime.  The Vikings took control in the overtime by outscoring the Golden Gales 9-3.  This puts the Vikings at 4-3 overall on the year.  Scoring for the Vikings: Brady 3, Coe 5, Race 8, Zwayer 4, Ell 9, Anderson 11, Freeman 3, Trego 7.


2008-12-30Location: AwayTeays Valley: 68Westfall: 58

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball were able to pull out a 68-58 overtime win at Westfall.  The Vikings started out sluggish and fell behind at halftime.  A solid 3rd quarter effort put the Vikings up by 4 heading into the final period of play.  Teays Valley built a comfortable 8 point lead with 4 minutes remaining, but turnovers and poor free throw shooting allowed the Mustangs to tie the game and send it into overtime.  The Vikings took control in the overtime and outscored the Mustangs 13-3 to seal the victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 3, Bowling 2, Race 28, Zwayer 4, Anderson 18, Freeman 4, Trego 10.


2008-12-20Location: HomeTeays Valley: 59Gahanna: 64

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team lost to Gahanna 59-64 in overtime.  The Vikings lead for the majority of the game, but were never able to put Gahanna away.  Gahanna scored with 2 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.  The Vikings were outscored 11-6 in the extra session.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 8, Bowling 6, Race 14, Ell 4, Anderson 15, Freeman 4, Trego 8.


2008-12-19Location: AwayTeays Valley: 56Bloom Carroll: 41

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball team went to Bloom Carroll and earned a tough 56-41 victory over the Bulldogs.  Teays Valley maintained a slim lead for the majority of the night, but the 4th quarter proved to be the difference as the Vikings outscored Bloom 17-4.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 2, Race 18, Zwayer 3, Ell 2, Anderson 18, Freeman 6, Trego 7.

The Teays Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team lost a hard fought game vs. Logan Elm on the road.  I feel that it was the best effort that we have put forth all year.  The Vikings hung tough throughout the entire game, but the second quarter proved to be the difference as Logan Elm outscored the Vikings by 9 points in the quarter.  The Vikings closed to within 5 in the fourth quarter, but missed some key free throws in the fourth quarter that could have made the game much closer than the final score.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 2, Bowling 5, Race 24, Zwayer 3, Anderson 16, Freeman 2, Trego 6.

Teays Valley got off to a slow start against Canal and fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter.  The Vikings were never able to cut into the lead the entire night.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 1, Bowling 7, Race 8, Anderson 15, Freeman 4, Trego 2, Priest 4.


2008-12-05Location: AwayTeays Valley: 51Dublin Jerome: 45

The Teays Valley Boys Varsity Basketball Team opened up the 2008-09 season with a 51-45 road victory at Dublin Jerome.  The Vikings took an early lead in the first quarter and were able to maintain the lead throughout the game.  The third quarter was the difference in the game as the Vikings posted 15 points and held the Celtics to only 5.  Even though the Vikings struggled in the fourth quarter with turnovers, they were able to hit enough free throws to seal the victory.  Scoring for the Vikings: Coe 4, Race 20, Zwayer 4, Ell 2, Anderson 8, Freeman 6, Trego 7.  Next up for the Vikings is Canal Winchester.

The JV Vikings closed out the '09 - '10 campaign with a tough loss at Canal Winchester. The Vikings jumped out early taking a 14 - 9 lead into the second period, in the second period the two teams battled, with the Vikings holding on to a 24 - 19 halftime lead. In the third period the Indians turned up the defense and held the Vikes to 3 points in the quarter, the Vikings trailed 33 - 27. The JV Vikings never gave up and closed the gap to 4 points early in the fourth period before falling to the Indians by 11. Scoring for the Vikings: Billy Hodge had 12, Colin Graves added 10, Jamaal Glick had 5, Ryan Reed, Ben Tosca each added 4 and Ben Hite and Brenden Niezgoda each knocked in 2.  The JV Vikings ended the season with a 10 - 9 overall record and 8 - 6 in the MSL. I would like to thank all the players and their parents for a great season.

The JV Vikings were unable to hold on to a first half lead in falling to the Braves on Saturday.  The first quarter saw each team try to figure one another out and ended 4 to 4. THe Second period saw the Vikings score 19 points and jump to a 23 - 13 halftime lead. The second half saw the Vikings go cold from the field and the free throw line and the Braves heat up as Vikings were outscored in the second half 33 - 15. The JV Vikings played a solid game in securing the victory in their final home game. The Vikings put 17 points on the board in the first queater and 13 more in the second to take a 30 - 25 lead into half time. The Vikings were able to come away with an impressive 52 - 47 victory over the Falcons who had defeated the Vikings earlier in the year. The JV Vikings capped a 23 point second half come back with a 3 point shot at the buzzer in overtime to defeat the Tigers.  The Vikings came out of the lockerroom very slow and sluggish.  We were not able to get anything going offensively or defensively at all. The Vikings were down 15 - 6 after 1 period and 34 - 13 at half.  The second half saw the Vikings claw their way back into the game with a tough diamond press and converting them into easy layups. The VIkings trailed 41 - 34 after three periods and the fourth period was a fast action paced as the Vikings completed the comeback with 4:15 left in the fourth period. The Vikings went up by as many as 5 in the closing seconds of the period, the Tigers never gave up and had a chance to win the game with 3 seconds left on the clock.  In overtime the VIkings and Tigers battled back with neither team establishing control. With the score tied at 59 with 18 Seconds left the Vikes took a time out to set up a play, we worked the ball around and when the Tigers defended the play Jacob Betts hit a 3 as time expired.  Scoring for the VIkings: Jacob Betts had 20, Colin Graves and Grant Gilliland each had 10, C.J. The Vikings were able to hold off a early charge by Mifflin, but were unable to sustain the momentum as the Punchers came away with a 9 point win. The JV Vikings got their first win of the year at Lancaster. The Vikings used good defense, fast breaking lay - ups and aggressive play to capture their first win of the season. The Vikings were down 4 points with 45 seconds left and got a steal and a basket to cut it to 2. After a defensive stand and a rebound the vikings came down and took a time out with 13 seconds left. The JV Vikings lost a very physical game last night against a very good Logan Elm team. The Braves jumped out to a 12 - 1 lead midway through the first half, before the Vikings battled back to take the lead late in the 2nd period.  The Braves hit a 3 as time expired to go up 4 at the break.  The second half saw Logan Elm outscore the Vikings 31 - 19.  We had our troubles on the offensive end of the floor tonight. The Braves did a good job of defending us offensively, defensively we were unable to get any stops when we needed them.  Scoring for the Vikings: Vic Priest had 12, Dominic Koah had 10, Kevin Tavenner added 7, Tyler Dresbach had 5, Colin Graves added 4.  The Vikings are in action on Tuesday at Amanda.

The Vikings lost a well played game tonight in their home opener.  The Vikings did a great job of controlling the tempo of the game all night, at half trailing 15 - 14. The fourth period saw the Vikings claw their way back into the game, but a few costly turnovers in a row led to easy buckets for Gahanna and we were not able to get the victory. The JV Vikes came up 2 points short in a great JV basketball game.  The game was close after 1 period with CW up by 1, the 2nd period saw the Indians taka a 10 point lead into the lockerroom. In the third period the Vikings used some good D and converted on the offensive end inside to close the gap to 2 points heading into the 4th period. The 4th period saw the game go back and forth with both teams holding a 1 or 2 point lead just to see the other team erase the deficit. The Vikings missed a jumper at the buzzer to end regulation. Overtime was thrilling as well as both teams battled, CW made 2 free throws with 8.6 seconds to go, TV called Time out and set up a last second shot, the shot glanced off the backboard as the horn sounded.  Both teams played hard and it was a real good game. Teays Valley put 3 players in double figures and was able to hold off a late rush by Jerome in sealing the first win of the year.  Scoring for the Vikings:  Dominic Koah had 13, Vic Preist added 12, Kevin Tavenner added 10, Cole Bowling had 6 and Tyler Dresbach had 2. It was a pleasure teaching the boys the game of basketball and watching them grow as a team. We had lots of fun on and off the court. I will miss this group of boys but will enjoy watching them as they compete in the MS league for the next four years. Vikes were outscored 10-11 in the 2nd quarter and led 19-14 at half. Vikes came out of the locker room and were sluggish but led 26-20 after 3 quarters. Vikes played a good 4th quarter and finished the game strong. Work hard and good things happen.

Boys opend the season with a fine victory over a scrappy Bloom squad. The Vikes started off strong by scoring 17 points in the 1st quarter. Bloom battled back and the vikes led 27-24 at the half. Vikes came out in the 3rd quarter and out scored Bloom 16-6 and never trailed from that point on. Vikes had balanced scoring and played a tough 2-3 zone in the 3rd and 4th quarters. 8th grade boys won an exciting game tonight by the score of 39-37. The game was tight for 3 quarters and tied at 27 entering the 4th. The Vikings were down 7 points with a little over a minute to go. The Vikes played solid defense down the stretch. Seth Anderson tipped the ball from behind and Tyler Cowles tracked the ball down and made a 3pointer and then the Vikes held and with 16 seconds left the Vikes scored a lay-up and Tyler Primmer stole the in-bounds pass to make the lay-p as time expired to win the game.

The 4th quarter was a defensive struggle as both teams could only score 6 points. The first overtime saw both teams play good defense and we had a chance to win at the buzzer but the shot would not go in. We made our free throws in the 2nd overtime and pulled out the victory.

We play a good Amanda team on Wednesday and then play Circleville on Thursday.

We had our chances and missed numerous lay-ups and foul shots. We play Amanda on Thursday 1-29.

8th grade boys traveled to Logan Elm and came away with a big win. Wes Call made his first start of the season and played well after he shook off the nerves. The Vikings took a 13-8 lead after one quarter and held Logan Elm to 1 point in the second quarter to take a 30-9 halftime lead. The Viking defense forced 22 turnovers and led to some easy fast break points. Graham Trego played his best game of the year with 4 points and 2 assists. The Vikings shared the ball well with 8 guys scoring. We play Canal on Saturday 1/24/2009, please come and support the Vikings.

I would like to give credit to TV West for playing a very hard and physical game and it was nice to see the improvement of each player. TV basketball has a bright future.
