The Vikings competed at the Division 1 Central District Cross Country Championships and finished 7th out of 13 teams in their race. With muddy conditions created do to the rain earlier in the week, the Vikings raced for a spot in the regional race and missed out by two teams as the top 5 teams earned the right to go to the next round. The boys raced with all they had today and they really went after one of those qualifying spots. Competing for each and every spot throughout the whole race the boys gave it their all. The Viking were led by Jacob Richards, who finished 32nd with a time of 18:02 and by Cody Redman, who finished 34th with a time of 18:07. Great job on a great season boys. With a great team effort, the Vikings finished second place in the Mid-State League Meet. Canal Winchester won the boys meet with a score of 23 points to the Vikings 50 points. The boys went after it from the start of the race and pushed the whole way through. Working together, the boys made great moves during the race to move up to the front of the back. I was proud of the way the boys competed. We knew coming in that Canal Winchester had a strong team, but the boys were excited about the opportunity to take a shot and I thought they ran great. The Vikings were led by a 4th place finish by Cody Redman and an 8th place finish by Jacob Richards. Both boys ran well enough to earn First-Team Mid-State League honors. Earning Second-Team Mid-State League honors were Dallas Lindeman, Nick Vorwerk, and Brandon O’Linn. Andrew Looney earned a spot as an Honorable-Mention All-League member. The Teays Valley Boys Cross Country team won the Ray Russell Invitational at Jonathan Alder beating runner up St. Francis DeSales by 4 points; 52-56. On a warm October day, the boys went out with a purpose and never looked back. I enjoyed the competitive fire the boys showed throughout the whole race. As we get down to this time of the year, it is important that the boys compete for each and every spot and they are doing that now. They worked hard to win their individual battles, because they have experienced the importance of what one or two points can mean in a race. This boys team has grown a lot from the start of the year and I believe that their hard work and their team cohesion has helped them succeed as the season has gone on. I really am looking forward to seeing what they can do as we approach the Mid-State League Meet and the Central District Meet in the next couple of weeks. The boys were led by a 2nd place finish by Cody Redman in a time of 17:38 and a 6th place finish by Jacob Richards in a time of 18:00. The Vikings competed at the Piketon Invitational on a chilly and damp morning. Despite the conditions, a visit from two alumni runners seem to pump up the boys and get them ready to race. From the start of the race the boys positioned themselves well and ran strong throughout the whole race. The boys finished second in a field of 20 schools, finishing with 87 points, finishing behind Fairland, who scored 22 points, and who is currently ranked 4th in the State in Division 2. I was pleased with the way the boys competed today. They showed a desire and hunger to be in the front of the race and pushed all the way to the end. I also liked how the boys ran smart races. They were patient and made moves in the right places. Despite not having any seniors on the team, the boys have shown the ability to make good decision on the race course and work together to produce results. The preparation and intensity were two things the boys having definitely developed over the course of the season and I think they are starting to get it right as we move towards league and districts. The boys were led by a strong effort up front with Cody Redman finishing 5th in a time of 17:09 and Jacob Richards who finished 9th with a time of 17:22. A shout out goes to all boys who competed and ran strong races. Individual Results (185 runners)

Teays Valley Boys Cross Country The Teays Valley Vikings competed at the Tiger Invitational at Pickerington Central High School. The boys finished 6th out of 6 teams in the highly competitive Tiger Division race, finishing 6 points behind John Glenn High School. Despite the fact that the boys two-meet win streak came to an end a lot was accomplished at the meet. I think the boys are starting to become racers and are competing for position the whole race. They are starting to develop the mental and physical toughness to compete for the whole 5k race. I was proud of the way the boys competed and finished the race as well. The ability to compete and challenge runners in race like today will benefit the boys as they move towards the league and district races. I think a lot was learned today and the boys can take that and apply it to practice and look towards the goals they have set for themselves. The boys had success from top to bottom today as 12 of the boys ran season-best times on the wet and at spots, muddy course. The Vikings were led by Cody Redman placing 13th (17:45) and Jacob Richards placing 17th (17:58). Teays Valley Boys Cross County County Champions! The Teays Valley Boys Cross Country team was able to take home the title of Pickaway County Champions by edging out a victory over Circleville by scoring 38 points to Circleville’s 39 points. The race was tight and competitive the whole way with runners battling for position. I thought the boys gutted it out the whole way and were determined to bring home a county championship. I am proud of the way they competed from start to finish and am proud of them for accomplishing the feat of becoming County Champions. None of these boys were on the team that won the County Championship two years ago, so this is an awesome experience for them and hopefully something that will propel them forward as the season goes on. One of our goals this year was to become county champions and we did that, now we must look forward and see where we can improve to reach some of our other goals. The guys came out of the race tonight knowing they must make improvements in several aspects of their races. We have work to do, but I feel these boys are committed to putting in the time and the effort to make this happen. The boys were led by a 2nd place finish by Cody Redman and a 6th place finish by Jacob Richards; both young men earned 1st Team All-County Honors as well. Teays Valley Boys Cross Country
The Teays Valley Viking boys were able to work as a team and come away with a first place finish at the Zane Trace Invitational scoring 61 points and outdistancing Vinton County who scored 104 points. The boys were able to place five runners in the top 30 in a race of 127 runners and ran smart races. The boys were able to keep control going up the hill and pushed themselves on flat ground and downhill as we had discussed during the week and before the race. Also the boys had a good split between the 1-5 runners of 1:13, showing a good team effort overall. We had put emphasis on sticking together and running as a pack and I thought the boys did a better job of that today. We still have work to do to reach the goals the boys set for themselves, but today was a step in the right direction and I think it will help push the boys forward towards success as the season continues. The boys were led by a 5th place finish from Cody Redman in 18:11 and an 11th place finish by Jacob Richards in 18:35. In addition, several boys set personal bests times today. Good job to all boys who competed.

Teays Valley Viking Boys Cross Country On a blistering day at the start of September, the boys cross country team held together and toughed out the conditions to earn a respectable 5th place out of 20 teams at the Circleville Kiwanis Invitational by scoring 165 points. With temperatures reaching in the mid 90s when the boys started their race, they worked to push the heat out of their minds and compete with all they had. I thought the boys maintained a great focus throughout the race and worked to compete for each and every position despite the conditions. The boys started the race off in smart fashion and put themselves in good position to make good finishing moves in the latter part of the race. It was also good to see some of the boys start to take a leadership role before, during, and after the race. The team is working together toward a common goal and their strength and toughness as one started to show today. The boys were led by an 11th place finish by Cody Redman and a 17th place finish by Jacob Richards. All boys who competed today should be complemented on the accomplishment of overcoming the heat and giving forth a complete effort in the tough conditions.

Teays Valley High School Boys Cross Country Team The Teays Valley Viking Boys Cross Country team started off the season in the right direction with a 7th place finish out of eleven teams at the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Cross Country Invitational. With some tough competition the boys competed hard and ran well for the first race of the season. For the most part, the boys ran smart races, especially at the start of the race, as it can be easy to get excited and take off too fast when the gun sounds for the first time. They did a good job of staying under control and letting the race come to them. The boys were glad to see some good early season results, but know that much work has to be done to accomplish their goals in the league and when districts roll around. The boys were led by Cody Redman who finished 11th in 17:57 and Jacob Richards who finished who finished 37th in 18:56.

Teays Valley Cross Country Runner, Taylor Conn, competed in the Division 1 State Cross Country Championships on Saturday November 7th. Taylor ran a tough and competitive race finishing 73rd with a time of 17:01. Taylor had a great plan coming into the race and really wanted to get after it and see what he could do and I couldn't be prouder of the effort he put forth. He had talked about not only making it to State but getting after it and really seeing what he could do at the race and he ran a smart race early and put himself in position to do so with a mile left. He has trained so hard since last cross country season to get to this point, it was awesome to see him have a chance to go out there and compete against the best runners in the state.
The Teays Valley Boys Cross Country team competed at the Division 1 Regional Meet at Pickerington North. The team ran a very impressive and tough race and pushed themselves in a highly competitive regional race. The conditions were extremely muddy and wet, with a good bit of standing water throughout the course, making times look very slow. The Vikings places 10th at the regional race. This effort was outstanding because coming into the race not a lot of people were giving us a shot to compete in this race and projecting that we would finish at the back of the pack. All week as a team we used this as motivation and went into the race knowing that if we could give a strong effort we could put ourselves in a good spot and the boys went out and did that. The boys believed in themselves and each other and went out in this race and beat some outstanding teams and schools with great cross country tradition As a coach I am really proud of how these young men grew from the first meet of the season to this point. They should all be extremely proud of the accomplishments they have achieved this year. The Vikings were led by a 16th place finish by Taylor Conn and a 23rd place finish by Tyler Conn. For placing 16th, Taylor Conn qualified for the State Meet to be run at Scioto Downs on Saturday November 7th. Taylor ran a very smart race and it paid off for him. He did not go out too fast and put himself in a good spot at the 2 mile and carried that to the finish to qualify out. Taylor has put in a lot of hard work to get to this point so I am happy for him and very prould that he was able to qualify to the State Meet.

The Lady Vikings competed at the Division One Central District Cross Country Championships and finished one spot shy of qualifying as a team to the Regional Race. The Lady Vikings finished a mere 7 points behind Delaware Hayes for the last spot out of the district race. The Vikings had their eyes set on the spot and competed valiantly as they pushed for each spot during the race. I was proud of the way the girls got after it today, they really were going after a regional spot and they gave everything they had on the course. The girls did everything that was asked of them leading up to the race and I was pleased with that effort. The girls were led by Lora Overholt who finished 3rd with a time of 19:19 and by Sara Toskin who finished 29th with a time of 21:30. The Lady Vikings earned second place at the Mid-State League Meet. In a close race for first, the Vikings finished 11 points behind Canal Winchester. It was a great overall effort by the Vikings as they ran a smart race and made up ground as the race continued on. The strong push at the end of the race brought Canal within striking distance, but the ladies came up just short. Despite that, I was proud of the way the girls competed. They took a chance to go for it and the effort and desire were there and as a coach I couldn’t ask for anything more. Also, a big effort and a big person best from freshman Kristen Noecker helped the Vikings secure second place as the Vikings finished 3 points ahead of Circleville. The Vikings were led by Lora Overholt who finished in second place with a time of 18:38. With her efforts Lora earned First-Team Mid-State League honors. Earning Second-Team Mid-State League honors were Sara Toskin who finished 13th with a time of 21:15 and Karina Overholt who finished 14th with a time of 21:19. Honorable-Mention All-League honors go to Katie Glover (18th) and Kristen Noecker (19th). The Teays Valley Lady Vikings finished in second place at the Ray Russell Invitation at Jonathan Alder. Bishop Ready won with 37 points, while the Lady Vikings finished with 46 points. The Vikings ran hard as they finished their last tune up before the Mid-State League Meet and the Central District Meet. These ladies have some good goals set for the MSL race and Districts and I thought they took some positive steps today to make those goals happen. The competitive spirit shown by the ladies today shows how bad they want to reach these goals as we move towards the post season. I thought the ladies showed a lot of good things today, but there are still a few aspects of their races that they still need to pull together to make big things happen and I think we should be able to work on those things this week in practice. The ladies were led by a first and second place combination. The Vikings were led by a first place finish from Lora Overholt in a time of 19:10 and a second place finish by Karina Overholt with a time of 20:56. Individual Results (61 runners) Lora Overholt 19:10 (1st) Karina Overholt 20:56 (2nd) Sara Toskin 21:35 (9th) Katie Glover 22:27 (14th) Mariah Hicks 23:11 (20th) Kristen Noecker 23:15 (22nd) Ashley Trejo 25:21 (35th) Tayde Raga 30:03 (54th) Ashley Holbrook 30:04 (55th) Katelyn Hanneman 32:30 (58th) Kaycee Blum 34:37 (60th) Leah Evans 38:02 (61st)
The Lady Vikings competed at the Piketon Invitational and a damp and chilly morning. The whole team competed well, with many of the girls running their best times of the year. The Vikings scored 96 points finishing fourth behind champion Zane Trace, Fairland, and Circleville. The girls as team showed a lot of strength and fight. Our pack was not as tight as it has been the last several weeks, so that is something we will continue to work on. Despite that, I thought the girls ran smart races by putting themselves in good position at the mile mark and battling through the very end. As the season continues each and every week, the girls learn more and more about what it will take to reach the team goals that so many of them discussed early in the season. I think the girls will learn as team from the race today and carry their experience the rest of the season, so that they can achieve their goals. The girls were led by a 1st place finish from Lora Overholt finishing in 18:41 and a 18th place finish from Karina Overholt finishing in 21:06. Good job to all the ladies who ran and competed today. The Teays Valley Lady Vikings competed at the Tiger Invitational at Pickerington Central High School and came away with a 4th place out of a field of seven in the competitive Tiger Division team race. The Vikings were competitive and right in the mix throughout the whole race finishing 23 points out from second place, Pickerington North. The Vikings pushed hard from the start and challenged through the finish line. I think the girls ran well today. Despite some of the ladies having a difficult time today, I thought others stepped up and pushed forward and that is what is so great about this team. They step up and support one another on and off the course. Today was important for these girls because they had a chance to compete with teams that could be in our district race. It was a good experience and I think the girls learned a lot from it and will carry it as they move forward throughout the season. The goals these girls have set can become accomplished and they needed a race experience like the one they had today to get to where they want to be at the end of the season. The girls were led by a first place finish from Lora Overholt, completing the course in 19:04 and a 16th place finish by Karina Overholt, completing the course in 22:00. County Champions!
With the strength of their pack the Lady Vikings were able to repeat as County Champions. The girls ran and worked together throughout the whole race and placed five runners in the top ten to score 32 points pacing them 8 points in front of runner-up Circleville. I was excited to see our scoring pack so tight this evening, now we must work to move that pack forward and score less points. The girls came into this season with the goal of winning the county meet and they were able to accomplish that goal this evening by running a smart and tactical team race. The Lady Vikings have big goals to go after as the season continues and have set the bar high for themselves this year, so using this victory as momentum and motivation to work hard and stay driven and focused will be important. The Lady Vikings ran to their strength at Hargus Lake and must continue to do so as the season continues. It was great to see the ladies come away with a victory for the second straight year. The Vikings were led by a 2nd place finish by Lora Overholt and a 6th place finish by Karina Overholt. Joining Lora and Karina on the 1st Team All-County team was Sara Toskin.

Teays Valley Viking Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team competed at the Circleville Kiwanis Invitational finishing 3rd out of 17 teams. On a day where the temperatures were reaching the mid 90s the girls toughed it out and competed every step of the race. I was impressed by the mental toughness of the girls as they seemed to push aside the potential distraction of the heat and run their races. We had discussed this the night before and the girls took it to heart and it helped their overall performance. The mental toughness the girls showed in the race today will be important as they work to achieve their goals within the county, the Mid-State League, and the district. The girls have big goals and this race will help them find the ability to make the improvements they need to make to reach these goals. The girls were led by a 1st place finish by Lora Overholt and a 23rd place finish by Karina Overholt. All girls who competed today should be complemented on their effort and ability to overcome the conditions and give forth a complete effort today.

Teays Valley Girls Cross Country Team The Teays Valley Girls Cross Country team started off the season by placing 3rd out of ten teams at the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Invitational. In a highly competitive field the girls held their own and raced well. This race was important because the girls were able to see some of the Division 1 competition they will see at the end of the season and it was important for them to see that they can compete at that level. I was proud of the overall effort as the girls battled all the way to the finish line. The girls started off the season on the right foot and must use this race and experience as a stepping stone to reach their goals for the season. A 3rd place finish with this competition is a great way to start the season and the girls can use it as motivation to continue to work hard and drive towards their goals both in the league and at the district level. The ladies ran at the Teays Valley Viking Invitational on September 19, 2009. The ladies continued to make great improvements from week to week, and this race was no different. It really seems like the ladies are building momentum towards the end of the year. They had another great week of practice and it seems to be paying off. Today's effort was a solid team effort and the the team seems to be creating a strong pack of runners. This past weekend the team competed at the Athens Invitational. The Teays Valley Girls placed second as a team. The girls ran strong. It was nice to have some of the girls with injuries able to come back this week, but it was also good for those girls who stepped up in their absence to continue to run strong. I thought the girls had an great week of practice, worked well together in the race and were rewarded by scoring a second place finish.
