The varsity baseball team traveled to Dublin Scioto on Monday for a Division I District Semifinal game versus Dublin Scioto and left with a 8-7 loss in 8 innings.
The Vikings jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead behind a 2-run homerun by senior Chad Cunningham and a grand slam homerun by Stewart Trego. However, a big 4th inning by the Irish proved to be too much.
Jared Woltz threw 4 innings and Andrew Cox threw the final three plus and picked up the hard luck loss.
Big thanks go out to the 10 senior baseball players as well as their families for all their hard work, sacrifice, and dedication they poured into this season. You were the core of a 3rd consecutive Mid-State League Buckeye Baseball championship. Keep your heads up and know that coach will always be there for you if you need help. I appreciate every single one of you, and I am proud to have gotten the chance to coach you. Go Vikings!

Teays Valley clinched its first ever Division I sectional championship in baseball as they defeated Grove City 3-0 in the completion of a suspended game from Thursday.
Jared Woltz (7-1) threw 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball on Thursday and Andrew Cox completed the shutout in relief, throwing the final 2 1/3 innings and picking up his second save of the season.
For the offense, Chad Cunningham led the way with 2 hits and an RBI, and Brady Stewart added an RBI as well. The defense played great as the infield turned 2 critical double plays to end Grove City threats.
Teays Valley (19-8, 11-3 M.S.L.) will now face off against Dublin Scioto on Monday at Dublin Scioto in a Division I District Semifinal game that starts at 2 PM.

The varsity Vikings wrapped up their regular season by traveling to Hilliard Davidson to take on the #8 team in the state. In the end Davidson powered their way to a 10-0 victory.
Matt Scholl (0-1) took the loss in his first varsity start. Jeremiah Blankenship only gave up 1 earned run 2 innings of relief.
Despite no runs, the Viking offense actually collected 10 hits on the night, but failed to hit the ball with runners on base. Eric Speakman led the way with 3 hits and Brady Stewart added 2 hits.
Teays Valley (18-8, 11-3) will look to capture its first Division I sectional championship on Wednesday when they host the Grove City Greyhounds at 5 PM in Ashville. Come out and support the team!

On Saturday the varsity baseball team faced 2 tough opponents in a 3 way doubleheader at Pickerington North and came up short in both contests. In Game 1 the Vikings were defeated by Pickerington North by a score of 4-1. Zach Andre (5-2) took the loss by throwing 4 innings. Andrew Cox had 2 hits and an RBI. Brady Stewart and Eric Speakman had 2 hits as well.
In Game 2 the Viking bats were slow to awake again as the boys fell behind and eventually dropped a 10-5 game to Zanesville. Kyle Heckler (2-3) suffered the loss as he threw 4 innings of work. Brady Stewart was the hitting leader with 3 hits, while Andrew Cox went 2 for 4.
Teays Valley (18-7, 11-3 M.S.L.) will continue to face stiff competition in preparation for their Wednesday tournament game when travel to Hilliard Davidson on Monday for a 5 PM start.

The Vikings traveled to Fairfield Union on Wednesday night with a chance to clinch an outright MSL championship in their final conference game of the season.  Andrew Cox (3-2) stepped up in a big way as the senior earned the complete game victory by tossing a no-hitter against the Falcons!  Cox threw all 7 innings, allowing 1 unearned run, and striking out 9 batters on the night.

Cox needed to be at his best because the Vikes were only able to scratch out 3 hits on the evening.  Eric Speakman provided the go-ahead run with his third homerun of the season in the 4th inning.  Cox and Brady Stewart also added a hit each.

The Vikings hosted league rival Circleville on Monday, a team that they were trailing by 1 game in the MSL standings and came away with perhaps their best overall team effort of the season in a 4-0 victory.
Jared Woltz (6-1) threw an outstanding game as the senior pitched all 7 innings and only gave up 3 hits on the night. Woltz was in charge the whole night and struck out 8 Tiger batters. The defense was also sharp in committing 0 errors for the game. David Pickering made some outstanding plays at shortstop!
Two other Viking seniors stepped up in a big way as well as Matt Scholl hit his second homerun of the year with a solo shot in the 2nd inning, and Andrew Cox connected on his third homerun of the year with a 2-run blast in the 3rd inning. Eric Speakman helped out with 2 hits and 2 runs.
Teays Valley (17-5, 10-3 M.S.L.) will next travel to Fairfield Union on Wednesday to wrap up Mid-State League Buckeye conference play.

Teays Valley defeated Hamilton Township in a rain-soaked game on Friday at Viking Field by a score of 13-3 in 6 innings. The Vikin bats were hot from the start. Alex Ballard had a 4 hit game and Stewart Trego added 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Jared Woltz and Chad Cunningham added 2 hits and 2 runs scored each.
The offense was enough for Zach Andre as the senior ran his record to 5-1 with a complete game effort. Andre allowed only 1 earned run and struck out 7 Ranger batters on the night.
Teays Valley (16-5, 9-3 M.S.L.) returns to action on Saturday as they host a 4 team tournament with Logan Elm, Westfall, and the Division III state-ranked Wheelersburg Pirates coming to Ashville. Games are slated to begin at 11 AM.

On Wednesday, the varsity Vikings made a return trip to the Chillicothe VA Stadium to take on Amanda Clearcreek in an important league contest. In a tight game through 6 innings, the boys exploded for 5 runs in the 7th inning to cruise to a 8-1 victory. Andrew Cox (2-2) evened his record by throwing a complete game, allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run. Cox struck out 10 Aces on the night.
For the offense, Eric Speakman and Chad Cunningham had 2 hits each while Stewart Trego came up with a clutch bases loaded triple and 3 RBI's. David Pickering scored 2 runs.
Teays Valley (15-5, 8-3 M.S.L.) will return to action on Friday when they host the Hamilton Township Rangers.

The Vikings took on the Bulldogs from Bloom Carroll on Tuesday and came away with an exciting 2-1 victory. In a very well pitched game by both teams, Jared Woltz(5-1)emerged victorious as he threw a complete game allowing one unearned run on only 4 hits. Woltz recorded 5 strikouts on the evening. The rest of the Vikings helped secure the win by playing solid team defense committing only one error and turning a double play to seal the win.
The offense could only manage 3 total hits, but Andrew Cox and Matt Scholl both had an RBI, with Eric Speakman picking up a hit and an important sacrifice bunt.
Teays Valley (14-5, 7-3 M.S.L.) will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel back to the Chillicothe VA Stadium to take on the Amanda Clearcreek Aces in a MSL contest.

The varsity Vikes played a 3-way doubleheader on Saturday at the VA Stadium in Chillicothe. In Game 1, the #10th ranked Zane Trace Pioneers defeated the Vikings by a score of 8-2.
Zach Andre took the loss as he pitched 4 2/3 innings. Brady Stewart collected 2 of the team's 6 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI.

In Game 2, Teays Valley battled back from a late deficit to go ahead and eventually pick up the victory by a score of 5-4 in a 10 inning affair at Chillicothe's VA Stadium.
Kyle Heckler pitched an effective 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 4 Tiger batters. Zach Andre (4-1) came on in relief and picked up the victory by throwing 3 innings of scoreless relief.
The Viking bats were slow to warm up, but senior Chad Cunningham came through in the clutch with a 2 out game winning RBI single to plate Brady Stewart in the 10 inning.
Teays Valley (13-5, 6-3, M.S.L.) will host the Bloom Carroll Bulldogs on Monday in an important MSL contest.

The Vikings traveled to Logan Elm on Friday night and gutted out a 5-4 MSL victory over the Braves.
David Pickering (3-0), stepped up in a big way as the senior threw 6 innings of relief to pick up the victory. Pickering gave up 1 earned run and struck out 7 Logan Elm batters.
Hitting leaders for the Vikes were Eric Speakman, Alex Ballard, Stewart Trego, & David Pickering with 2 hits each.
Teays Valley (12-4, 6-3 M.S.L.) will travel to the beautiful Chillicothe VA Stadium on Saturday to take on the Division III #10 state ranked Zane Trace Pioneers at 11 AM, and Division II Waverly Tigers at 2 PM.

Teays Valley welcomed Canal Winchester to Ashville on Wednesday, and after a slow start the Viking bats got hot as they picked up a convincing 16-6 victory in a shortened 6 inning contest.
After trailing 5-0 in the 2nd inning, the Vikings erupted for 7 runs in the frame and never looked back. Leading the offense was senior Alex Ballard who went a perfect 4 for 4 on the night. Jason Cline got involved with a 3 for 4 night scoring 3 runs. Brady Stewart was the leading run producer with 4 RBI's and a 2 for 4 night. Eric Speakman and David Pickering chipped in with 2 hits each.
The offense was more than enough for senior hurler Jared Woltz (4-1) who threw 6 innings and fanned 4 Indian batters.
Teays Valley (11-4, 5-3 M.S.L.) will travel to Logan Elm on Friday for a Mid-State League showdown with the Braves.

Teays Valley looked to get back on the winning track after a tough loss to Circleville when they hosted Fairfield Union on Monday. In a very sloppy performance, the Vikings were able to do just enough to defeat the Falcons despite 5 defensive miscues and several mental mistakes.
Offensively, the boys did a great job of battling back numerous times as the team collected a season high 14 hits. Andrew Cox went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and a clutch 2-run homerun to seal the victory. Matt Scholl had 3 hits and Alex Ballard went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and his second homerun of the season.
Andrew Cox picked up the victory (2-2) in relief as he threw 1 scoreless inning.
The Vikings (10-4, 4-3 M.S.L.) will look to improve on their performance Wednesday when they host Canal Winchester.

The Vikings continued a busy week with a Thursday non-conference home game versus Westerville Central. In an exciting contest, Teays Valley was able to rally in the end and defeat the WarHawks by a score of 7-2. Zach Andre (2-0) picked up his 2nd win by hurling a complete game, allowing one earned run on 6 hits.
Andrew Cox went 3 for 4 at the plate, scored 2 runs, and stole 2 bases to aid the offense. Stewart Trego added 2 RBI's.
Teays Valley (9-3, 3-2 M.S.L.) will travel to Circleville on Friday in an important conference contest.

The varsity Vikings took the road on Wednesday evening to take on the Rangers of Hamilton Township and came away with a 7-4 victory. Kyle Heckler (1-1) threw a complete game giving up only 2 earned runs while striking out 6 batters.
Andrew Cox helped out with a double, a triple, and 2 RBI's. Eric Speakman contributed with 2 RBI's as well.
Teays Valley (8-3, 3-2 M.S.L.) faces a stiff test on Thursday when they host Westerville Central in a 5 PM non-conference matchup.

The Viking baseball squad traveled to Carroll on Tuesday night for a makeup date against the Bulldogs of Bloom Carroll. In a game that saw the Vikings control most of the contest, 1 poor inning proved to be too much to overcome as we dropped a 6-5 contest. On offense, Eric Speakman led the way with 3 hits and his first career homerun. Brady Stewart added 2 hits and his first homerun of the year as well.
Andrew Cox (1-2) suffered the loss as he went 5 1/3 innings and struck out 5 Bulldog batters. On a bright note, the defense committed 0 errors for the second consecutive game.
The Vikings (7-3, 2-2 M.S.L.) will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hamilton Township.

The varsity baseball team played host to Amanda Clearcreek on Monday in an important MSL Buckeye contest. Jared Woltz and the Viking defense stole the show as Woltz threw a complete game shutout and was supported by a defense that committed 0 errors on the night. Woltz only allowed 4 hits and struck out 5 Aces batters. The entire defense played its best game of the season and were led by seniors Matt Scholl and David Pickering who made several great defensive plays each.
Andrew Cox cracked 2 hits, one of which was a triple, and scored both runs on the night. Alex Ballard and Jared Woltz each chipped in with an RBI.
Teays Valley (7-2, 2-1 M.S.L.) will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Carroll to take on the Bulldogs from Bloom Carroll.

The Vikings returned to action on Saturday when they hosted Central Crossing in Game 1 of a 3 way doubleheader. It was exciting game that saw the Vikes come from behind to gain a 5-4 victory. David Pickering (2-0) got the win in relief as he threw 4 scoreless innings while striking out 2 Comet batters.
The offense was led by senior Andrew Cox who had 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Adam Perkins added 2 hits as well.

In Game 3 of the 3 way doubleheader, Teays Valley jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in a 15-0 win over Columbus West. The story of the day was Zach Andre who threw a 5 inning perfect game! Andre struck out 3 batters and did not allow single West player to reach base! Andre threw a dominating game!
Alex Ballard went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 4 runs scored, while David Pickering added 2 hits and 2 RBI's too.

The varsity baseball team returned home on Wednesday as they hosted the Logan Elm Braves. A lack of offensive production and too many defensive mistakes added up to a very disappointing 2-1 loss. Kyle Heckler (0-1) took the hard luck loss as he threw a complete game giving up 2 unearned runs and striking out 8 batters.
The Vikings (4-2, 1-1 M.S.L.) are hoping to schedule an opponent for a non-conference contest tomorrow.

The Teays Valley baseball team opened up their conference schedule with a trip to Canal Winchester on Monday. The Vikings offense was impressive early as they racked up 9 runs the in first four innings and held on for an 11-5 victory. The offense received an early boost from Stewart Trego who connected on his first career homerun as he smacked a 2nd inning grand slam. Alex Ballard joined in the 3rd inning when he cracked his first career homerun as well. Ballard had 3 hits on the day, while Eric Speakman added 2 hits, 2 RBI's, and 3 stolen bases.
Jared Woltz threw an excellent ballgame as the senior hurler threw a complete game and struck out 9 Indian batters.
Teays Valley (4-1, 1-0 M.S.L) will continue league play on Wednesday when they host Logan Elm.

The Vikings participated in a 3-way doubleheader on Saturday at Groveport High School. In Game 1, Teays Valley scored 6 unanswered runs in the final 4 innings to defeat Briggs by a score of 6-5. David Pickering (1-0) picked up the win in relief by throwing 4 shutout innings of no-hit baseball. Eric Speakman contributed 2 RBI's and Jared Woltz added 2 hits of his own.
In the second contest, Teays Valley played a hard fought game against the Cruisers of Grovport that saw both teams take the lead several times throughout. In the end, the Vikes fell short and dropped a 6-5 contest. Eric Speakman started and threw 5 innings and Andrew Cox relieved and took the loss (1-1). Matt Scholl cracked 2 hits for the Vikings.
Teays Valley now stands at 3-1 on the year and will travel to Canal Winchester on Monday to open up Mid-State League Buckeye conference play.

The varsity baseball team played their second game of the season and first home game of the year as they hosted a fine Division II Lakewood Lancers team in a non-conference game. Despite trailing two separate times, the Vikings continued to battle and ultimately came away with an 8-5 victory.
Kyle Heckler started the game and threw an effective 4 2/3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 8 hits. Andrew Cox(1-0) relieved Heckler and threw the final 1 1/3 innings to gain his first victory of the season. Cox struck out 4 of the 5 batters he faced.
Offensively, Stewart Trego and Andrew Cox led the Vikings with 2 hits and 2 RBI's each. Cox launched his first homerun of the year. Jared Woltz contributed 2 hits and Brady Stewart added 2 RBI's as well.
Teays Valley (2-0) will entertain a 3-way doubleheader on Saturday as Briggs & Groveport come to Ashville.

The Teays Valley Viking varsity baseball team opened up their 2008 season with a trip to Westland on Wednesday and came away with a 10-2 win. The Vikings pounded out 12 hits in their opener as 8 of the 9 starters collected hits. Brady Stewart led the way with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's. Andrew Cox added 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Eric Speakman chipped in with 2 hits and 3 runs scored, and David Pickering contributed 2 hits to the cause.
The offense was enough for senior hurler Jared Woltz (1-0) who threw 6 solid innings, giving up 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and 4 strikouts. Zach Andre threw a scoreless 7th inning to finish the game.
The Vikings (1-0) will be back in action on Thursday as they host the Lakewood Lancers in a non-conference home contest.
