2010-06-03     TVEMS 8th Grade Football Website

The 2010 Teays Valley East Middle School 8th grade football website is up and running. I will use this website as the primary source of information and communication with parents. The website has a "Bulletin Board" page (which will be updated weekly and at times daily), our 2010 schedule , a 2010 roster (once it is set), a page for the cheerleaders, an 8th grade coaches' bio page, the "Touchdown Viking" and "Ironman Players" recognition pages, a practice / game / event calendar (maybe the most useful tool for parents; just click on the activities for any day on the calendar for additional information about that date), a photo gallery, a link to the Teays Valley athletic website, a link to the Teays Valley West Football website and finally, a guestbook (please feel free to sign it and give me any suggestions and feedback you have about the website). Another addition this year is a countdown ticker to important events, amongst other useful links on the page. You will also find my e-mail address at the middle of the page (please send any and all practice and game photos here, as I do post them on the website's photo gallery). The URL (web address) for the site is rather long, so I suggest copying and pasting the following web address http://www.leaguelineup.com/tvemsfootball  Once you have reached the website, add it the "My Favorites" section on your internet browser to easily be able to visit the site at any time. Unfortunately, due to the fact that we now have two middle schools, this website is only for the 8th grade team at Teays Valley East Middle School. A 7th grade site will be the responsibility of the 7th grade coaches. Please feel free to visit the site immediately for important updates and information. The site can also be accessed by clicking on the "TVEMS" link when on the fall sports / football website (which you are on now)  for the school district.

This win put the Vikings at 5 - 4 on the season. Alot of the credit goes to the Defense this week. This held one of the best running backs in the league to under his season average. Speaking of the best running back in the league, we may have him. Colton Foreman ran for 217 yards and broke the school rushing record friday night in 9 games. Colton would be the first one to say the credit should go to the Offensive line and Receivers. They have done a great job blocking at the line of scrimmage and down field all year.

The senoirs last home game is this friday vs. Hamilton Township.

A great win over Circleville. Very good Defensive game by only giving up 7 points. Touchdowns scored by Zach Zace, Colton Foreman and Jake Pontius. Alot of credit is given to the offensive line for opening big holes for the running backs. Colten Foreman finished the game with 252 yards.

Friday nights game was a good team win. The defense stepped up and played well and offense did a good job controlling the ball. This week we take on the Logan Elm Braves. They are undefeated at 6 and 0.

A very good win after a disappointing week 2. We had 2 players with over 100 yards each. Great job O-Line. The Defensive also did a great job forcing 2 INT's. Now the team is entering the league schedule this week. The Vikings will start out with Canal Winchester.

2008-10-14Location: AwayTeays Valley: 43Circleville: 6

The 8th grade football team closed its season with a 43-6 victory over Circleville. The Vkings finished the year at 6-1, but came 1 point short (and one and a half yards short) of being MSL Champions.  The Vikings settled in after shaking off the lag of the bus trip down and giving up the first score of the game. Though the Tigers scored first, the Vikings struck back relentlessly with 43 unanswered points. The Vikes got standout performances from Jacob Betts, Nik Schiff, Tyler Mosier, Jacob Wissinger and Owen Dorsey offensively. Defensively, the middle school gridders were led by Joey Quickle, Travis Hedge, Jesse Younkin, Brandon Wright, Keegan Irwin and Corey Mullens. Teays Valley also got great play from Nick Taylor, Brandon Reeves, Kyle Willis, Lane Hedrick, Tyler Davis and Ian Pritchard. The Vikings were happy to see every member of the team get field time and finished their incredible year in the exact fashion they hoped for. The 8th grade team would like to thank its incredible fans, parents and supporters for being behind us 100% this year. It is you that makes our seasons so special and we look forward to providing you with great football in the next few years.

2008-10-07Location: HomeTeays Valley: 40Logan Elm: 18

The 8th grade pigskinners made quick and easy work of the Logan Elm Braves on Tuesday night. The Vikings held a comfortable 28-0 lead at halftime and went on to score two more times to run their point total to 40. Teays Valley was led by quarterback Jacob Betts, fullback Keegan Irwin, wide receiver Tyler Mosier (who had over 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns) and a strong offensive line. The starting 11 of the Vikings defense gave up nary a point, and held the Braves to little, if not zero, offensive yards in the first half. Many of the Vikings starters were fans during the second half, as the Viking reserves put two more scores on the Braves and allowed three scores to the opposition. It was a great team effort and all players got an opportunity to contribute and make their presence felt on the field. It was an honor for 8th graders to win the last middle school football game to ever be played at Viking Stadium. The 8th grade team will look to improve to 6-1 next week when they take on Circleville Everts.

2008-09-29Location: AwayTeays Valley: 27Bloom Carroll: 8

The 8th grade team took its record to 4-1 by defeating the Bulldogs of Bloom Carroll under the lights Monday night. The Vikings were well prepared for the "spread" offense that was thrown at them by Bloom Carroll and has been allowing the Bulldogs to average over 30 points this year, by limiting Bloom Carroll to only one touchdown. The Viking defense was led by the strong play of defensive tackle Derrick Adkins, nose guard Derek Vaughn, cornerback Buddy Hill, defensive end Dominic Bourne and linebacker Joey Quickle, who harrassed the Bulldogs QB all night. Owen Dorsey also contributed an interception. The Viking offense was paced by the able arm and legs of QB Jacob Betts, fullback Keegan Irwin, wide receiver Brandon Wright and wide receiver Tyler Mosier, who hauled in an 87 yard touchdown catch. It was a total team effort and the Vikes met every goal they set out to meet on the evening. The 8th grade gridiron gang welcomes the Braves of Logan Elm next Tuesday for their final home game of the 2008 campaign. The Vikings would like to invite all their fans, parents, friends and teachers to come out and watch them take their last home victory of the season!

2008-09-16Location: AwayTeays Valley: 20Canal Winchester: 12

The Vikings made the short trek to Canal Winchester and handed the Indians their first loss of the year, as well as the first loss ever on their brand new field. The Vikings improved to 2-1 and now have their eyes firmely set on repeating as MSL Buckeye Divison Champions. The offense was led by Tyler Mosier with one receiving touchown (thrown by Jacob Betts on a beautiful flag route), Jacob Betts with one rushing touchdown and Keegan Irwin with a rushing touchdown. Irwin also converted 2 of 3 PATs. Brandon Wright also contributed an awesome leaping catch for 34 yards in the opening half of play, which led to a Viking touchdown that was questionably called back for holding. The Vikings seem to be a favorite target of the referee's yellow flags this year when scoring touchdowns, as they have had three touchdowns in three games called back. The defense was led by the strong play of defensive end Corey Mullens, linebacker Brandon Wright and cornerback Jacob Betts. Tyler Mosier picked off two more passes (which gives him three on the year) and Wessley Call also ballhawked an opponent's pass for the INT. The Vikings will welcome Fairfield Union to Viking Stadium next Tuesday and are looking to hand them a lopsided loss and move to 3-1 on the year. The Vikings would once again like to thank their dedictaed fans, parents and friends for cheering us on and giving us the motivation and spirit to rise and conquer. "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose."

2008-09-09Location: HomeTeays Valley: 34Hamitlon Township: 8

The 8th grade Vikings played up to their potential on Tuesday night while beating Hamilton Township 34-8. The Vikings enjoyed a 27-0 halftime lead and all of the players on the squad got quality playing time. The Vikings were lead by Jacob Betts with 3 touchdowns (2 rushing / 1 punt return), Keegan Irwin with one touchdown (rushing) and P.J. Bendoff with one touchdown (receiving). Keegan Irwin also converted 4 of 5 PATs. The entire Vikings defense had a hand in the win, as the starting defensive four controlled the line of scrimmage and the linebackers aggressively swarmed to the ball. Tyler Mosier contributed an interception on the first play of the game and Travis Hedge had the bone-crushing hit of the evening. The Vikings are now 1-1 and will look to improve to 2-1 next week when they travel to Canal Winchester.
2008-09-02Location: HomeTeays Valley: 7Amanda Clearcreek: 8

The 8th grade Vikings came home with a tough 1 point loss Tuesday night. The defense allowed Amanda to score on the first drive of the game, but settled in to keep the Aces out of the endzone the rest of the night. The Viking offense scored on its initial possession of the game and decided to kick the extra point with the expectation of putting more touchdowns on the board. This would prove a costly decision as the Vikings knocked on the endzone door many more times, but were unable to find pay dirt. The Vikings were forced to settle for a questionable holding call on a touchdown called back, but battled back from a 1st and goal at the 28 yard line to come up 1 1/2 yards short of the winning score. This was a disheartening defeat for the Vikings, who had aspirations of an undefeated season, but we will regroup and take out our frustration out on our next 6 opponents. Our redemption begins next Tuesday against Hamilton Township as we pursue our new goal of 6-1 and a repeat MSL Championship. We would like to thank our parents and fans who continue to support us and give us the will to work hard, improve and show how successful we will indeed be.
