The Teays Valley Vikings Cross Country team competed at the District Meet at Watkins Memorial High School on Saturday October 24th.
The Teays Valley Boys finished 5th out of 12 teams, qualifying for the regional meet as a team for the 1st time since Teays Valley has moved up to Division 1.  The boys ran a very tough and gutty race as they dug deep to push themselves and their teammates to the finish line.  The conditions were at their worst for the boys race as they had sideways rain and a very strong gusty wind blowing during the race.  Though times were not where the boys wanted them to be, the weather was not ideal and the course was muddy and roughed up, it is certain that on a normal day and a dry course the boys would have set new personal records.  The effort and will to win were on full display by these young men.  The Vikings were led by a 5th place finish by Taylor Conn and a 7th place finish by Tyler Conn.  The Vikings now must look forward to the Regional Race in which they will run on Saturday October 31 at 2:50 pm at Pickerington North High School attempting to qualify for the State Meet,

2009-10-31Location: AwayTeays Valley: 0Division 1 Regional Cross Country Meet: 0

The Teays Valley Boys Cross Country team competed at the Division 1 Regional Meet at Pickerington North.  The team ran a very impressive and tough race and pushed themselves in a highly competitive regional race.  The conditions were extremely muddy and wet, with a good bit of standing water throughout the course, making times look very slow.  The Vikings places 10th at the regional race.  This effort was outstanding because coming into the race not a lot of people were giving us a shot to compete in this race and projecting that we would finish at the back of the pack.  All week as a team we used this as motivation and went into the race knowing that if we could give a strong effort we could put ourselves in a good spot and the boys went out and did that.  The boys believed in themselves and each other and went out in this race and beat some outstanding teams and schools with great cross country tradition  As a coach I am really proud of how these young men grew from the first meet of the season to this point.  They should all be extremely proud of the accomplishments they have achieved this year.  The Vikings were led by a 16th place finish by Taylor Conn and a 23rd place finish by Tyler Conn.  For placing 16th, Taylor Conn qualified for the State Meet to be run at Scioto Downs on Saturday November 7th.  Taylor ran a very smart race and it paid off for him.  He did not go out too fast and put himself in a good spot at the 2 mile and carried that to the finish to qualify out.  Taylor has put in a lot of hard work to get to this point so I am happy for him and very prould that he was able to qualify to the State Meet.

Teays Valley Cross Country Runner, Taylor Conn, competed in the Division 1 State Cross Country Championships on Saturday November 7th.  Taylor ran a tough and competitive race finishing 73rd with a time of 17:01.  Taylor had a great plan coming into the race and really wanted to get after it and see what he could do and I couldn't be prouder of the effort he put forth.  He had talked about not only making it to State but getting after it and really seeing what he could do at the race and he ran a smart race early and put himself in position to do so with a mile left.  He has trained so hard since last cross country season to get to this point, it was awesome to see him have a chance to go out there and compete against the best runners in the state.

The Teays Valley Boys Cross Country team participated at the Newark Cathloic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday August 23rd.  The Teays Valley Boys team placed 7th out of 15 teams.  The Vikings were led by a 10th place finish by senior Chris Varian and a 20th place finish by freshman Cody Redman.  The boys came out and ran smart races on a hilly course that can be quite a challenge.  We have a team of boys who are either young or do not have much experience in the sport of cross country, so for them to come out and test the waters with this course, can be difficult, but they ran tough and competed and I was proud of that and now we will continue to work hard, get better, gain experience, and improve as a team.  I believe this team can have success this season, but the first step was to gain experience and learn about ourselves as runners and what it takes to compete on the course.

This past weekend the Teays Valley Cross Country teams ran at the Kiwanis Invitational in Circleville on the grounds of Ohio Christian University. The Teays Valley Boys had a tough hard week of practice and had several runners missing time due to illness or being sick and some were still trying to get through that as race day came along.  Despite that, and despite missing senior Chris Varian, the Teays Valley Boys ran a gritty race, pushing themselves to the very end.  The boys finished 10th out of 20 teams.  The Vikings were led by
freshman Cody Redman, placing 28th and running a 17:53.3 and Junior Sam Stewart, placing 51st, and running a 18:31.4.  The Teays Valley Boys Freshman had to step
up in this race with 3 freshman placing in the top 5 and 4 in the top 7.  I think the boys had their sights set on doing a little better at this meet, but I
know they will continue to work hard during practice and use this as fuel for their improvement as the season continues.  This group of young men want to
succeed and will work hard to get there,  I look forward to seeing their continued effort during practice and how it will improve their results at races.
