What do you do when you are not playing your best tennis? Just keep doing your best. Ask 1st doubles Gretchen Dixon and Laura Dieterich who despite playing eratic tennis found enough mental toughness to win a three set match in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5). Ask Stacey Graves who won her second match as a varsity player in her second straight tie break win, 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-5). How do you complete the sweep? Play dominant tennis. Like Abby's 6-0 6-0 win at first singles, or Andrea's 6-1 6-1 win at second singles, 0r second doubles 6-1 6-2 win posted by Charleigh Shannon and Amber Dixon. Courtney Clem rounded out the match with an 8-0 JV win at singles. The Vikings take on a strong Logan Elm team this Thursday at Circleville. Coach Petty
2006-08-31Location: AwayTeays Valley: 3Logan Elm: 2

In a match that featured the best qualities from both schools, Teays Valley defeated Logan Elm 3 to 2. Just before the raindrops fell on a cool Circleville evening, 2nd doubles took the court in a 2-2 tie. After falling behind 0-4, Amber Dixon and Charleigh Shannon rallied to win 6 games in a row to win 6-4. They went on to seal a hard fought victory with a 6-3 second set win. Abby Leatherwood helped to set the stage with yet another impressive 6-1, 6-0 win against an unexpectedly competetive opponent. The second point was won by a combination of great shotmaking and dogged determination at 1st doubles. Gretchen Dixon and Laura Dieterich served, lobbed and clawed through a first set tiebreak only to lose the second set 1-6. But true to this years form, they battled back to win the deciding set, 6-2. Most of our hopes were initally were pinned on Stacey Graves at 3rd singles. Winner of two straight matches in tiebreakers, Stacey won the first of three long sets 6-4 before losing the second 2-6. In the pivotal third set, Stacey served for the match at 5-4 but was broken on points that lasted 10 strokes. She was defeated finally 7-5 but raised her level of play beyond expectations. Courtney wound out official play with an impressive 8-4 win. This win and the co-operative effort involved help us raise our expectations for the 06 season. Coach Petty

After two close losses to Logan Elm and Hamilton, the tennis team bounced back with a much better effort posting a 5-0 win. Again leading the way was Abby with a 6-0, 6-0 win but this time Stacey Graves and Charleigh Shannon followed suit. Both doubles teams of Gretchen Dixon, Andrea Williams and Amber Dixon, Laura Dieterich won in straight sets. The JV also won all but one match making this one of our best performances to date. The TV girls tennis wrapped up league and season play today with an exceptionally strong 5-0 win against Bloom-Carroll. Despite losing the services of Abby at first singles, the team became stronger in their resolve and dominant in their performance. Andrea Williams, Gretchen Dixon and Laura Dieterich won at singles losing a total of three games, 6-0,6-1, 6-1,6-0 and 6-0,6-1. It was probably their best performance of the year. 2008-08-23Location: HomeTeays Valley: 0Teays Valley Invitational: 0

On a great day for the second annual Teays Valley Invitational, the Lady Vikes played outstanding tennis to win their own tournament.  Trophies were given for 1st and 2nd singles as well as 1st doubles.  Seven teams were present for this tournament.  1st singles was won by Grandville who easily dominated the field.

Teays Valley's 2nd singles freshman, Adrien Leatherwood outlasted Groveport 9-7 to win her division.  This is only Adrien's second week as a High School player and shows outstanding promise.

In doubles, Charleigh Shannon and Brittany Sisson beat back a field of super teams to capture the Doubles crown.  The girls played 3 matches winning all by the score of 9-7.  Though drained of energy in the heat, they managed to find just enough to beat Hartley, Olentangy, and finally a very strong Groveport team.

Congrats to all.  Coach Petty.

The Lady Vikings take on London at London on Monday at 4:30

2008-08-25Location: AwayTeays Valley: 4London: 1

In a match that took more than two hours, Teays Valley defeated London 4-1.  TV doubles were dominant, winning both matches in straight sets, 6-1,6-0 and 6-1, 6-1.  London was dominant in 1st singles, winning 6-3, 6-2.  Tabitha Johnsen won her match at 2nd singles 6-2, 6-1, when it looked as though Adrien would fall.  The match of the day was Adrien's match at 2nd singles. After dropping her first set 3-6 and looking as though she would go 0-2 in the second, Adrien played the match of her young career to win the next 6 games to take the second set.  The third set featured long rallies and close games before Adrien closed out the match 6-4.

At a time when players needed to step up, both Tabitha and Adrien did.  The Lady Vikes begin league play Thursday, hosting Bloom Carroll at 4:00.  Coach Petty

2008-09-02Location: AwayTeays Valley: 0Granville: 5

After a 5-0 League win over Bloom Carroll, the Lady Vikes traveled to Grandville for a non league contest. In the 90 degree heat, we faltered then fell to a very strong opponent. Andrea fought but could not find an answer at 1st singles, losing 6-1, 6-1. Jennifer Beckley played well but suffered the same fate, 6-1, 6-2. Kelsey Clay played her first match at varsity and gave it her best but lost 6-0, 6-1. 2nd doubles also lost in straight sets. The match of the day was at 1st doubles, where Brittany Sisson and Charlie Shannon battled to a long three set 6-4, 4-6, and finally a dissapointing but determined 3-6 defeat. The Lady Vikes showed a lot of courage and intend to correct their course this Thursday against Canal Winchester, home at 4:00. Coach Petty
2008-09-05Location: HomeTeays Valley: 5Canal Winchester: 0

Teays valley completed this week with win over Hamilton 5-0 .  The Lady Vikes gave up only ONE game in this win.  The tennis team plays Bexley Tues. and Logan Elm on Thursday of next week.

2008-09-09Location: AwayTeays Valley: 1Olentangy Orange: 4

On a great day for outside activities, the Lady Vikes were defeated by a strong Olentangy team, 4-1.  Using a new lineup, Adrien and Brittany were our only winners at 1st doubles, 6-3, 6-3.  We were defeated at all singles matches in straight sets.  Tabitha p;ayed 1st singles, Bailey played her 1st varsity match and Kelsey Clay played in only her second.  It ws a tall order to play an experienced team, but they gave their best effort.  Again, the match of the day was at 2nd doubles, featuring Jennifer Beckley along with Jamie Weber.  after losing their first set 6-4, they dominated the second set and had a commanding lead in the second, 4-1 before bad service games and mistakes cost them the victory in a 7-4 tiebreaker.

The Lady Vikes plan to right the score this Tues against Grandview at 4:00 and @ Hamilton on Thursday.Coach Petty

2008-09-09Location: HomeTeays Valley: 3Grandview: 2

With renewed effort, the Lady Vikes defeated Grandview, 3-2 in a match taking nearly 3 hours to complete.  1st singles Adrien Leatherwood could not solve the high level play of her opponent and Jennifer Beckley, despite the most steady play of the season had the same result, beaten by a slightly better player- at least today.  Doubles was a different story with Charleigh Shannon and Brittany Sisson winning in straight sets along with 2nd doubles, Emily Studebaker and Jamie Weber.   The match of the day was Tabitha Johnsen who played long difficult points en route to a 7-6, 6-3 win, giving Teays Valley the win.  Coach Petty

2008-09-18Location: HomeTeays Valley: 3Logan Elm: 2

The Lady Vikes took a giant step towards a MSL title with a 3-2 win over a very strong Logan Elm team.  Led by undefeated 1st and 2nd singles, Teays valley had to rally to win the other 3 courts.  Charleigh won in two hard fought sets at 3rd singles, 6-3, 6-4.  Adrien and Brittany won easily at 1st doubles as did Emily and Jamie at 2nd.  This brings us to a showdown next Tues with also unbeaten Circleville.  Good luck Vikings!

2008-09-23Location: HomeTeays Valley: 2Circleville: 3

In a match that was all it was expected to be, Circleville outlasted Teays Valley 3-2.  This was a day where upsets were the rule.  Adrien upset Sarah Utts in straight sets playing as confident tennis as she has all year.  Tabitha Johnsen played very well to get what we thought to be an upset  but only lost one game, 6-1, 6-0.  Both Teays valley doubles teams faltered and then fell to strong net play by determined Circleville doubles teams, 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-4.  The one match that was not an upset  had Jennifer Beckley being defeated at 2nd singles by Circleville's Maynard who has lost only once in MSL play.  Though the loss was difficult, the outcome of the MSL will be decided at the MSL league tournament this Saturday at Teays Valley beginning at 9:00 am.  Coach Petty
