The Teays Valley High School Girls Cross Country team finished 20th out of 22 teams.  The girls team had quite a few minor injuries and general soreness that led to some girls sitting out this weekend.  We had a lot of young girls running in our top seven and they really worked hard, ran well, and gained some great experience.  We had talked about some one stepping up and leading this team and a few girls took some good steps in the right direction.  The girls were led by Alice Beckman placing 57th and Sara Toskin placing 103rd.

This past weekend the team competed at the Athens Invitational.  The Teays Valley Girls placed second as a team.  The girls ran strong.  It was nice to have some of the girls with injuries able to come back this week, but it was also good for those girls who stepped up in their absence to continue to run strong.  I thought the girls had an great week of practice, worked well together in the race and were rewarded by scoring a second place finish.  The girls were led by Alice Beckman with a 5th place finish and Sara Toskin with a 16th place finish.

The Teays Valley Vikings Cross Country team competed at the District Meet at Watkins Memorial High School on Saturday October 24.
The Teays Valley Girls finished 11th out of 13 teams in their district races.  On an extremely muddy and beat down course, in addition to cold weather, the girls ran with great effort and showed fight until the end.  The conditions were not ideal for running fast times, but the girls pushed hard, and ran what would have been their fastest times of the year on a normal day.  The girls were led by Alice Beckman placing 38th and Sara Toskin placing 63rd.  It was a good finish to a season in which the girls worked hard, pushed themselves, and competed hard each and every week.  Great work ladies and we have a lot to look forward to and prove next season.

The Teays Valley Girls Cross Country team ran at the Newark Catholic Invitational on Saturday August 28th and  placed 13th out of 17 teams.  The Vikings were led by sophomore Mariah Hicks, who placed 33rd, and senior Rachael Smith, who placed 42nd.  The girls really came out and competed.  The big thing for them today was to not start the race too fast and run smart on the hills and they accomplished that.  On the challenging and hilly the course the girls posted some outstanding early times and showed strength with their pack up front where it was less than a minute seperating the first runner from the fourth runner.  To have a pack like that leading the team really helps with scoring lower in the meets.  I was prould of the way the ladies worked today and I think we have a lot of good things to look forward to as the season moves forward.

The Teays Valley Girls competed at the Circleville Kiwanis Invitational on Saturday.  The Teays Valley Girls provided an excellent effort today placing 6th overall
after winning a tie-breaker with Logan Elm, based off the 6th runner.  The girls were led by Mariah Hicks, placing 37th (22:16.9) and Sara Toskin placing 39th
(22:21.9).  The best part of the girls race was that they ran a team race.  The split between our number one runner and our number five runner was 1:05, which
is pretty impressive.  As long as we can keep that spread tight and have our girls continue to improve and move forward good things are going to happen.
With that tight spread we score points quickly and prevent other teams from scoring a lot in between our runners.  I was very proud of the effort the girls
put in today and was impressed by their strength over the last mile.  I think the girls are looking forward to using this race as momentum and to improving
week by week and reaching some of the goals they set at the start of the year.
